Police officer to be laid to rest after fatal vehicle accident

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan police officer will be laid to rest after he died in an accident on Jan. 15.

Officer Steven Parker's Jeep collided with the semi truck about 2:50 Friday morning in Genesee County.

The 48-year-old of Fenton died as a result.

It happened on southbound I-75 just north of Maple Road in Flint Township.

The southbound lanes of I-75 were closed at exit 116 for several hours due to the accident.

The semi was traveling southbound on I-75 when it was struck from behind by the Jeep, police said.

The driver of the semi was not injured, police said.

Parker was a police officer with the Flint Township Police Department.

He leaves behind a wife and five children.

Parker's services will be held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 19 at the Sharp Funeral Homes, 1000 W. Silver Lake Road in Fenton. Visitation is 2-7 p.m. on Jan. 18 and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 19 at the funeral home.
