A radio station in Mid-Michigan changed its format and some listeners are not taking it too lightly.

WHNN’s change took place on Jan. 15 at 5 p.m.

The Cumulus-Saginaw station no longer plays classic hits and instead switched its focus to music from the 80s, 90s and today.

The station will be known as “My 96.1 … The Best Variety of Yesterday and Today,” according to a release from WHNN.

The last time the station changed its format was in 2000.

“Now, this evolution will provide our listeners with a better variety of music of yesterday and today, a better listener experience, and our advertisers, a more targeted opportunity for success,” WHNN said in a press release.

Two of the station’s radio hosts, Johnny Burke and Blondie, left the station.

A petition was created to try to change the station's mind.

"The problem with this change is there are half a dozen radio stations in the Bay City/Saginaw/Midland area that play the '80s to now' format, including two stations that broadcast from the same studio," the petition reads.

The petition was created on Jan. 17 and has more than 100 supporters.

"I'm signing because the new format stinks and the music is worse. I have no reason to listen to [your] station anymore without [Johnny] and Blondie," one person wrote in the comment section of the petition.
