BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

After losing his home on New Year’s Day, first-grader Ernie Galan IV returned to class for the first time.

Members of the community stepped in to donate car-loads of supplies to the family.

That includes Galan's first-grade class, which organized a giving project to help the family.

“That's where you get a tear in your eye and it warms your heart, because not only is Ernie and his dad benefitting from this, the rest of the students and the smiles on their face when they give it to Ernie,” said Principal Melissa Vrable. “They are going to be caring they are going to be compassionate and empathetic.”
