Library looking to build Latino culture collection with community help

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A local library system gets a big boost.

The Public Libraries of Saginaw received the Latino Americans: 500 Years of History grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.

The $3,000 grant will be used to hold public programming about Latino history and culture.

But the library needs the community’s help.

“We have very little in our collection about Saginaw's Latino history, which is unfortunate because Saginaw has such a rich history,” said Kim White, head of Hoyt Library.

To help the library, the community is invited to bring personal photos, documents and letters related to Latino culture to Hoyt Library on Saturday Jan. 16 for a do-it-yourself scanning event.
