State agency accusing insurance agent of fraud

Posted: Updated:

Candi Hyer said an insurance policy she purchased from the Evergreen Insurance Company turned into a $100,000 nightmare.

"I hope he pays for what he's done to a lot of people," Hyer said.

She thought she was covered for a car crash, only to find out, despite paying Evergreen for her policy, it had been canceled.

"It cost me financially a major life event that really, being sued and everything from an auto accident that wasn't covered," Hyer said.

And Hyer's not alone.

This week, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services suspended Evergreen Insurance agent, Richard Creed's license.

The state agency said investigators found numerous violations of Michigan's insurance code.

They accuse Creed of selling fraudulent insurance policies.

"It did not surprise me at all because of the ordeal that I went through," Hyer said.

While Creed’s office in Auburn office was closed, he denied the allegation before asking TV5 to leave.

"All I know is that I've done lots and lots of customers for 40 years, and all of a sudden you get one or two people complaining and it's gospel. That's about all I have to say," Creed said.

While Hyer says it's too late for her, she hopes this week's turn of events close Evergreen and Creed up for good.

"I hope he comes forward and takes what he deserves," Hyer said.
