Water distribution offers a case of water per day to households

Sarah Sizemore is one of many flint residents that showed up for more free bottled water, unaware of the fact they are entitled to get some every day.

“I came last week and said, well, I probably have to wait a few more days,” Sizemore said.

Not anymore.

All a person needs is to show proof of residence with either a water bill or driver’s license. Then, they get a case of water, a filter and a testing kit, free of charge.

More than 70 National Guard members helped to distribute water. Officer Eric Perrigan said it’s a matter of supply and demand.

"Right now we are technically under 30-day orders and from there it's one case per household per day," Perrigan said.

The water testing kits are not mandatory, but the National Guard strongly urges using them.

Samples from the test kits are gathered at distribution sites across the city.

State Sen. Jim Ananich stopped at one of the water distribution sites for a water testing kit. He said the contaminated water in Flint doesn’t play favorites.

“I want to make sure my family is safe, too,” Ananich said.

Sizemore is taking full advantage of the giveaway.

"I have a young baby at home and we’ve been going out to my mom and dad’s to get water in jugs to bring it home to give him baths," Sizemore said.
