College students facing hurdles in water crisis

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Deana Ackerman is part of the Delta Tau Delta house in Flint.

"Very frustrated," Ackerman said.

Like everyone else, the Kettering students that live in Flint need clean water, but Ackerman said they’re not getting help. They don’t have the proper documentation.

To get water from giveaways, Flint residents must provide a driver’s license or water bill with a Flint address.

But many students don’t have that documentation.

While Ackerman spoke with TV5, she received a phone call from Kettering University.

The school said it learned of Ackerman’s situation a few hours before she spoke to TV5.

A spokesman for the school said they will work with city officials to resolve the problem facing off-campus students.

"We pay the city taxes. We pay the water bill. We do everything that we're supposed to. Come here and help us too," Ackerman said.
