Obama adviser: Federal government working to assist Flint

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -

A top adviser to President Barack Obama says the federal government is doing what it can to assist the city of Flint and the state as all rally to deal with the water crisis there.

Cecilia Munoz heads up the group that coordinates the White House's domestic policy-making process.

She said Wednesday during a trip to Detroit that the "federal government will be there to support the people of Flint."

Munoz called what's happening in Flint "a public health crisis" and said it's fitting that a doctor from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has been placed in charge of a federal team tasked with providing support to the effort in Flint.

On Saturday, President Barack Obama signed an emergency declaration for Flint. He's traveling Wednesday to Detroit.
