Alcohol believed to be factor in crash where driver ran off

Posted: Updated:

A driver runs off after a rollover accident, and now officials say alcohol may have been involved.

It happened on Jan. 20 at 11:32 p.m. in Sanilac County’s Custer Township. The Sheriff’s Department was called to North Sandusky Road and Downington Road for the accident, but before crews arrived, the person who called in the accident said the driver had gotten out of the vehicle and run off.

The man was tracked for three miles using a thermal image camera and the Sanilac County K-9 unit. That’s when investigators determined he was able to get a ride from someone else.

Deputies were able to contact the 29-year-old man from the Deckerville area, and confirmed he wasn’t hurt.

Alcohol is believed to be involved and charges will be requested.
