Mother convinced son's pneumonia really Legionnaires' disease

At the Reynolds home, they take their video games seriously.

It is loud and intense.

The five of them are a competitive bunch.

But just press pause and the competition subsides. That's because they've learned at a young age what's important in life.

"When we got to the doctor, the doctor said if we waited one more day, I would have died," said Konnor Reynolds.

11 year-old Reynolds remembers exactly how he felt back in July.

He had a headache, a fever, and was extremely tired.

His mom, Heather Beach, took him to the doctor and was told he needed to go to the hospital right away.

"Talk about a mother's heart falling out of her chest," Beach said.

Konnor spent four days in the Intensive Care Unit.

Doctors said he had a severe case of pneumonia and he had an irregular heartbeat.

Beach said as she waited at the hospital, she learned a person had died from Legionnaires’ disease a week before.

She asked about it and Beach said doctors brushed off the possibility.

"The likelihood that he had that would be slim to none, now in the very next breath, they also said how extremely rare it was he had pneumonia in 90 degree weather," Beach said.

So she started doing research of her own.

"Reading up on it, it mimicked his symptoms. I can't even, I mean it was basically word for word his symptoms," Beach said.

After some time, Konnor is now fully recovered.

But with the most recent news of Legionnaires possibly flowing through Flint's tap, she wonders if the mystery is solved.

"I understand coincidence, but how can so many things just be coincidence?" Beach said. "As a mom, I am telling you, I am sure my son had Legionnaires."
