SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

The massive effort to get clean water to the people who need it is in full swing, and new numbers have been released.

Water resource teams made up of community volunteers, Michigan National Guard Members and the Red Cross distributed water resources to nearly 40,000 homes so far.

That's bottled water filters water replacement cartridges and water testing kits. Door-to-door efforts will continue throughout the weekend.

"We've made a pretty good footprint by hitting all areas. Now we're going back and making sure every resident has clean fresh drinking water," said MSP Lt. David Kaiser.

Lt. Kaiser reminds residents you do not need an ID to get water and filters.

The National Guard asks for your address to follow-up and see who may need replacement resources.

The Joint information Center said no one would be turned away because they couldn’t provide an address.
