LANSING, Mich. (AP) -

Five organizations are getting federally funded "Save Michigan History" grants to help with their historical preservation work.

The grants seek to help smaller, nonprofit historical groups uncover hidden collections and improve access for public research. The funding totaling $7,500 is being shared by the group following recommendations from the Michigan State Historical Records Advisory Board that they get the support.

The state says groups getting money include the Delta County Historical Society, the Houghton Lake Area Historical Society, Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum in South Haven, the Midland County Historical Society and the Sanford Area Historical Society.

Work includes organization of historical records, digitization, online cataloging and rehousing fragile materials with archival folders, boxes and shelving.
