A Lansing man was arrested after firing a gun and fleeing police.

It happened in Mt. Pleasant about 11 a.m. on Jan. 24.

A resident called Central Dispatch about an erratic driver on northbound US-127. The caller told Central Dispatch the driver took the Pickard Street exit.

An officer observed the vehicle on Pickard and attempted to stop it for not having a license plate, officials from the city of Mt. Pleasant said.

The driver pulled over in the turn lane near US-127 then fled the scene on northbound US-127.

While traveling on US-127 the driver fired a gunshot out of his vehicle, officials said.

Police continued to chase the suspect north of the city of Clare.

Deputies from the Clare County Sheriff’s Department deployed spike strips and the tires on the suspect’s vehicle were spiked. The vehicle came to a stop and police were able to take the 44-year-old Lansing man into custody, officials said.

Police recovered a handgun and ammunition from the vehicle.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Jan. 25.
