FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Several major corporations are banding together to provide relief for the residents of Flint.

Walmart, Coca Cola, Nestlé and Pepsi-Co are making donations to about 10,000 Flint public school students.

Donations will provide up to 6.5 million bottles of water, which is about 176 truckloads.

But to these companies it's more than just helping out.

“We are a member of this community we have nearly 1,000 associates in the Super Centers we operate here as well as we have some of our Sam’s Club associates representing us today as well and they are members of this community their kids go to these schools,” said Dan Bartlett, Walmart executive vice-president of corporate affairs. “This is personal.”

In addition to the water donation, the companies are encouraging others to support the Flint community by working with Good360, where nonprofits operating in Flint are listing their needs online.
