Homeless population sees decrease

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Agencies in Saginaw County are hold their annual point-in-time count.

They're trying to get a total of homeless people in the area.

The number of homeless in the area is on the decline.

“We just completed a five-year assessment of our point-in-time count and the numbers have gone down,” said Joanie Covert, Saginaw Homeless Consortium. “We have decreased family homelessness by 75 percent and we have had a 20 percent decrease in our unsheltered count.”

Those totals help determine how much money Congress sets aside for the county.
