ISABELLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Amy Salazar's son Lucas had a wish come true on Friday, getting the chance to meet and assist Dr. Jan Pol.

"I was thrilled for him. You know that he gets to see Dr. Pol in person," Salazar said.

Pol is the star of the TV show The Incredible Dr. Pol.  Lucas has a rare, potentially life-threatening kidney disease. His greatest wish was to meet the famous doctor.

"Loves the show because he loves animals, number one. And the next thing he wants to be a veterinarian," Salazar said.

The Salazar family flew in from Florida to rural Isabella County. Besides meeting Pol, this is the first time the 12-year-old has seen snow.

"It's really nice," Lucas said.

Lucas has been a fan of The Incredible Dr. Pol series since it first hit the air on Nat Geo Wild in 2011.

"He's funny. He interacts with the animals in a great way," Lucas said.

Make-A-Wish Michigan made this meeting possible. Ashley Cummins is their spokeswoman.

"To have someone choose to meet a vet, a 12-year-old, that's pretty special," Cummins said.

Pol said he's glad he has the chance to make a kid's dream come true.

"I feel very humbled that they choose us. And we're going to make a nice day for him," Pol said.

All day, Lucas followed the doctor around with his stethoscope. He gave him a bag full of goodies and memories that will last a lifetime.

"There are certain things in life that make an impression on you and you'll keep that forever. And this is one of those things," Pol said.

Salazar said her son's condition has no cure and he might need a kidney transplant.  But those are worries for another day. For now, this family is living in one of their best moments.

"It's a memory that I'll never forget – that I thank not only Make-A-Wish but Dr. Pol making this dream for him come true," Salazar said.
