On an investor conference call, a cut of 500 jobs from Dow Chemical Company was mentioned briefly, right before the announcement of Jim Fitterling moving to the president of Dow.

A spokesperson from Dow said, “The additional headcount reduction is aligned to the productivity program underway, building further on the opportunities we have identified as a result of our efforts to remove strand costs and streamline our operations.”

The spokesperson said the job cuts will vary and information on how they will impact specific Dow locations isn’t available.

Dow chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris announced he is transitioning from his role as president, and Fitterling is replacing him as president. Fitterling will still report to Liveris.

“[Fitterling] has been a tremendous leader for Dow for more than three decades and has spent his entire career at our great company,” Liveris said. “He is performing a critical role for our team in the work that is already well underway on the completion of the DowDuPont merger and the subsequent establishment of the three previously announced independent public companies that will be created at the end of the process.”
