DETROIT (AP) -

Police say the body of a woman was found near a vacant school building on Detroit's west side.

Officer Shanelle Williams, a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department, tells The Detroit News that two people were walking through a field close to the building that once housed Gompers Elementary on Tuesday afternoon when they found the body.

Williams says the woman was maybe in her mid-20s to early-30s. An autopsy is planned by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office to confirm the woman's identity and determine cause of death.

Daryl Dorie tells WJBK-TV that he was heading to the store when he came across the body. He says the woman was clothed but had no shoes.
