SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Rhonda Farrell and her colleagues are turning the Super Bowl into a super fundraiser by making a whole lot of soup.

“We are excited because this is our annual event, where we celebrate our favorite teams and we do it with soup,” Farrell said.

All the staff at the Saginaw Public Libraries are participating in the Souper Bowl.

Farrell said that the annual event is not only delicious, it's for a great cause.

“People pay a certain amount to be able to eat and the money raised goes to a local organization,” Farrell said.

Farrell said the money raised from Thursday’s fundraiser will be given to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.

Chris Holubowicz is an employee at the library.

“Great day to give back to the community, put some money back in and have a good time with our staff,” Holubowicz said.

Over the past four years, the library has raised more than $1,500 doing this event.

Farrell said that any business could throw their own Souper Bowl party.

“We are going to talk about football, we are going to root for our own teams,” Farrell said. “We are going to wear our jerseys whatever one we want to wear, not even for the Super Bowl right now, but even for our own college teams. You know, like Michigan.”
