TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

An inmate attempted an escape while on a work crew.

On Thursday afternoon, shortly before 2 p.m., an inmate took keys to a DPW worker’s vehicle and fled the scene.

An area broadcast was put out to area police agencies and it learned that the inmate was from Marlette.

During the search, Marlette Police Chief Brian McGinnis located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop.

At that point, Marlette Police pursued the vehicle at speeds in excess of 100 mph, into Tuscola County. The vehicle became stuck in a field after going off-road.

The inmate attempted to escape on foot, but was apprehended by police.
