IOSCO COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A 52-year-old woman is dead after she was involved in an accident involving an off-road vehicle.

The accident happened on Old State Road near National City Road in Iosco County’s Grant Township on Feb. 6.

The National City woman was riding as a passenger in an all-terrain vehicle when the driver lost control causing the vehicle to overturn on the road, Michigan State Police said.

The passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the incident. She was transported to the Tawas St. Joseph Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver and the passenger were not wearing helmets or safety belts at the time of the crash, police said.

It is unclear if the driver was injured during the crash.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
