FENTON, MI (WNEM) -

One school's staff is now armed with better knowledge of how to keep its students safe.

Police and school employees underwent training exercises at Fenton High School on Monday afternoon.

They learned how to handle an active-shooter situation in a live drill.

"It's a life-saving tool that allows people to have options on things they can do to save their own lives as well as other lives," said Det. Andrew Knapp, Michigan State Police.

The training included state troopers and members of the Fenton Police Department.
