SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Alicia Clymer said she likes taking her kids out to get exercise when school gets canceled.

“Watching the kids sledding, been here since 8:30,” Clymer said.

She said the last couple days have been slick and icy on the roads.

“I think yesterday should have been a snow day,” Clymer said. “It was really icy and actually they said they should have canceled it but the superintendent didn't get out in time.”

Clymer joined many parents who took their kids out to have some fun. For a lot of students in our area, this is their first snow day of the year.

Many area school buses did not hit the roads because a lot of schools had a snow day.

Some local superintendents said that the students only get 30 hours of time off from school because of snowy and icy conditions.

After 30 hours the students have to start making up school days at the end of the year. However, Clymer said the way things are going, she doesn't think that's going to happen.

“It says it’s going to be cold, so maybe a few more. But I just can't see a lot like last year,” Clymer said.
