100 Women Who Care donate money to local charities

Posted: Updated:

The Genesee County chapter of 100 Women Who Care met at Woodfield's Captains Club in Grand Blanc.

The group meets four times a year, with members and teams pledging a $100 each time.

Members select a different charity for those donations each time.

Chapter founder Melissa Schummer said helping her community is a personal passion.

“I grew up in Swartz Creek and I currently live in Grand Blanc,” Schummer said. “I'm a teacher in Fenton. So what we do is all here in Genesee County as in where we live, where we go to school. This is where we want to make an impact.”

The group chose the Teddy Bear Patrol for this meeting's recipient.

Members have donated more than $30,000 to Genesee County charities and non-profit organizations.
