Governor Snyder bars media from second Flint water meeting

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A Friday meeting between Gov. Snyder and the Flint Water Interagency Coordinating Committee marks the second time the governor has excluded the media from a meeting of that committee.

Gov. Snyder met with the group that was formed by his office to address the Flint water crisis with experts; and local and state government officials.

Both times Snyder has met with the group in the last couple of weeks, TV5 cameras have been barred from recording the meeting. Meredith Corporation’s attorney, Joshua Pila, believes that ban violates the Open Meetings Act.

The Open Meetings Act provides the public and news media with full access to meetings of governmental bodies.

The governor’s office provided a livestream and video of the meetings, which we in turn gave to our viewers.

We will keep you posted as we continue to challenge the governor’s office for access to these meetings.
