FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Cases of water flew out the door at Triumph Church on Friday night.

"We get some water that freezes up, but you know, it'll thaw out after a while. Actually got a car coming in right now," said Keenon Waters, a volunteer distributing water.

Many people were stocking up for what will be a very cold weekend.

Waters threw on some extra layers to make sure he stayed warm for a job he says has to be done.

"It's just a small token to just stand out, hand out water, you know? It is what it is, whatever you can to help," Waters said.

Desiree Duell is just one of the dozens who loaded up with water.

"I have a son and making sure I have enough water during this cold time is really stressful," Duell said.

She said she left him at home because she didn't want him to fight the bitter temps.

Duell said she’s thankful for people who are braving the elements like Waters.

"It's amazing, it's amazing to see volunteers come out in the dead of this cold, and make sure that everyone has water," Duell said.

But there are some that are voluntarily going into the cold this weekend.

And Shumaker's Ski Shop in Flint Township saw plenty of winter enthusiasts stop in.

"Cold weather, people need hats, gloves, winter boots, socks, all that stuff," said manager Matt Schmier.

Whether they're skiing or sledding, Schmier said this is what the shop's been waiting for all winter.

"We're definitely hoping that a lot of people will take advantage of the cold weather and get out," Schmier said.
