FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A police department's is offering more details on a plan to respond to calls more quickly.

Flint implemented its rapid-response plan this week.

Under the plan, officers will investigate crimes on scene while people who call them in will be directed to give the information over the phone to a civilian employee.

"The reports have to be done. That's an essential component of our job," said Capt. Leigh Golden. "But if they're not tied up doing that report in the first place, we can respond that much quicker."

The plan covers non-domestic assault and battery, burglary, vehicle theft and several other crimes.
