DETROIT (AP) -

The father of a Detroit-area man accused of plotting to attack a church is promising to keep an eye on his son if a judge releases him.

Khalil Abu-Rayyan of Dearborn Heights is returning to federal court Tuesday. He's not charged with terrorism-related crimes, but investigators say he's made threats against a church, police and others in support of Islamic State.

The 21-year-old has been in custody for about two weeks on a gun charge.

In an affidavit, his father, Rayyan Abo-Rayyan, says he'll take responsibility for his son if a judge releases him on bond.

The FBI says the young man has expressed support for Islamic State on social media.
