BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee has been preoccupied with the Flint water crisis.

But on Wednesday he took a trip to Bay City, to look at ways Congress can help preserve the city's rich history.

Kildee took a tour of City Hall, and the Bay County Historical Society.

The congressman said the city's rich past needs to be protected.

"Because we can learn so much about ourselves from history. As a kid from Flint, who grew up in a different community, not very far away it’s so interesting to see both the similarities and the differences," Kildee said.

Just last year, the historical society dug up a 50-year-old time capsule and is currently working to restore it.
