As fuel prices go down, the size of the vehicles on the road go up, according to Craig Lang of Garber Chevrolet in Midland.

“We are experiencing great sales volumes in the larger vehicles,” Lang said.

Lang said right now, they are experiencing a big car boom.

“Silverado is our no. 1 seller, selling about 50 units per month approximately,” Lang said. “The Tahoes, the Suburbans, all the larger vehicles we are selling a little bit more of.”

One person that knows a whole lot about who's buying what is Jared Rowe president of Cox Automotive.

“We are seeing that it is cutting into sedan sales overall,” Rowe said. “And we do think that this shift is more than just temporary and it has more to do with fuel prices.”

Rowe said that vehicles today are better than they've ever been, and that is also helping sell larger rides.

Lang said he's not surprised that more Mid-Michigan folks are reverting back to gas guzzlers.

“Gasoline prices and larger trucks are helping each other out right now,” Lang said. “Gas prices are making it a lot easier to say, I can afford to have a pick up or an SUV, a full-size SUV.”

In most parts of the country, this is the cheapest gas has been in 12 years.

Lang said this current big car trend is helping out his dealership, but he asks himself one question: will it last?

“Will that change?” Lang said. “I think that's just one of those unpredictable situations that we all don't really know.”
