City busing system asking for loan

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

The future of Saginaw's bus service is still murky.

STARS held its monthly board meeting and is asking for a loan to help out with costs.

The $200,000 loan would supplement funds received from the federal government to improve short-term funding capabilities

“It would go into the whole scheme of things we still of course need our federal funds to supplement that too,” said STARS director, Sylvester Payne. “It’s hard to say but it would get us through a month, month and a half along with what we get from the federal government too.

The federal government has locked in funds which the board hopes will be available after resolving some issues on Monday.
