FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery and two good Samaritans are being credited with helping to track down a would-be thief.

On Feb. 22 at 7:15 p.m. a woman said she was approached by a man in a parking lot near Fenton and Atherton Road in Flint.

The woman claims the man assaulted her, and demanded money. When she sprayed him with a mace-type product, he grabbed her purse and ran.

Two men, Richard Newman and another man were nearby and heard the woman screaming for help. They saw the suspect running away, so the pair ran after him, and tackled him.

After a quick struggle, they were able to grab the purse, and the man took off.

A Flint Police Special Operations Officer responding to the 911 call saw the man running away and arrested him. The man was treated for minor injuries, and is in jail.

Eric Henley, 33, has been charged and arraigned for armed robbery.

The woman wasn’t hurt, and the good Samaritans returned her purse.

The Flint Police Department recognizes the heroic actions of the pair of men who intervened, but caution about taking action that could end violently.
