WEST BRANCH, MI (WNEM) -

It was the perfect storm.

"I thought I had enough time to get to the hospital, and I was wrong," said Mary Courtemanche.

And with it, came a perfect story.

Josie Jane Courtemanche gave her parents a ride of their life.

"The baby decided to come out very quickly," Mary Courtemanche said.

Mary Courtemanche started having contractions early this morning and knew it was time to go.

Her husband Darcy Courtemanche loaded her up in their suburban for the trip from West Branch to MidMichigan Health Center in Midland.

It was a slow go because the roads were terrible.

And on the grueling drive, his wife would give him another surprise.

"I told him to dial 911, and time was running out, and I just pushed, he pulled over, and grabbed her and delivered her," Mary Courtemanche said.

Just like that, baby Josie was born.

"My experience was crazy," Darcy Courtemanche said. "I pulled her out, made sure her airway was open, she started crying, we wrapped her up, went to MDOT."

By chance and probably by a little bit of fate, the baby born in the storm would be taken to the MDOT Service Center on Wilder Road.

That's where emergency personnel met the family and the new addition.

"Dad did a really good job," Mary Courtemanche said.

Darcy Courtemanche said, "I'm just relieved everyone is OK, mom, and baby, and it's just a blessing."

On Thursday night, Mary Courtemanche and baby are resting at the hospital, Josie joined by her brother and sister.

"I was definitely surprised when I heard they had baby Josie on the road," said Frankie Courtemanche.

Gabe Courtemanche said, "I'm just happy she's healthy and I'm proud of my dad."

A dad, who is content with this being a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"There's no next one, I've got four beautiful babies, I'm done," Darcy Courtemanche said.
