After this week's heavy snow, Robert Haney had just one reaction

“Oh, I just said, uh-oh,” Haney said.

The problem for Haney is his driveway, with physical limitations, he can't get out and shovel it himself.

Which leaves him snowed inside.

“How is someone going to get in here to take me to the doctor visits and the store and stuff like that?” Haney said.

Haney is legally blind, and just had heart surgery, so a job like shoveling is a no-go.

He reached out to the TV5 Shovel Squad looking for help.

“The heavy snow, I just can't lift around,” Haney said. “It’s hard for me to breathe cold air.”

And we put TV5 photojournalist Dale Ruff right to work.

But as soon as we arrived, a man driving a truck with a plow drove by, and offered to lend a hand.

Brent Nichols owns Nichols Lawn Green, which is just down the street from Haney.

“If we're driving around and see someone struggling with their end of driveway we tell them to stop and do it for them,” Nichols said.

He said it was just being neighborly.

And Haney was pretty shocked to see someone plowing him out so quickly

“I appreciate it, I didn't know who it was. Thanks,” Haney said. “It's good that people like that help other people out.”

And for an even better end to this shovel squad story, Nichols said his crew will come out and do Haney's driveway every snowfall, for free.

“He's a neighbor and when people are in need, we try to reach out to them,” Nichols said.

Haney said, “Oh it means a lot, tells me there's very thoughtful people in this world, they're not as bad as you think they are.”
