More than 500 cases of water donated to schools

Greg Packer is chairman and CEO of Accesspoint – the company provides staff and human resources to some schools in the Flint area.

"Just the thought of kids struggling with water. You know it's kind of something you sort of think of as basic," Packer said.

On Monday, they provided 572 cases of bottled water trucked in to Richfield Public School Academy and Richfield Preschool. That's 15,000 water bottles for the students and faculty in both buildings.

"Obviously they don't have a lot of control over where they live," Packer said. "This is their community so being able to you know see the smiles on their faces and know they have a little fresh water to drink will be great."

School officials urge the community to keep donations of bottled water flowing in.

"It's wonderful to receive the water. We'll take anything anyone wants to donate," said Jennifer Rivera.

Rivera is the director of the preschool. She said the donated bottled water is put to good use.

"We use it for the classrooms daily. We give it to our parents, donate to parents," Rivera said.

Rivera said that’s because no kid should have to drink lead-tainted water and said some of her students have already been impacted by the Flint water crisis.

"The lead levels in the water are so high that some of our children have high lead levels and you can't reverse that," Rivera said.

Packer said he vows to keep helping with water donations for as long as he can and hopes the days of delivering bottles of water to kids in school are numbered.

"Well obviously it would be nice to be able to use the drinking fountain and drink the way we all grew up in our schools," Packer said.
