FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

William Hart said is happy to have Flint in the national spotlight.

“I think it is very important to have Flint in the national spotlight because it is a cannery in the coal mines type situation. The water around the country is in horrible, horrible condition,” Hart said.

He said he thinks this debate will have a huge impact on voters come Tuesday in Michigan.

“I think it's a really important debate,” Hart said. “For both candidates most importantly, Hillary Clinton because she is against Clean Water acts. That’s really important, here in Michigan and all over the country. It’s really important for Bernie Sanders too because he doesn't really have a good poll rating here in Michigan.”

Many residents said the debate could have a huge impact on who they vote for in Tuesday’s primary.

Pat and Brian Hatcher who are keeping a close eye on both of the Democratic presidential front runners.

“I'm still pretty open minded about which candidate I'm going to support at this time,” Pat Hatcher said.

Brian Hatcher said, “I'm still undecided between the two. There are things I like about each candidate.”

Both said that having Flint in the spotlight is a good thing.

“I think it brings attention to Flint. I think it helps people understand some of the issues that we are facing in the Flint area, and I think can only help,” Pat Hatcher said.

Hart said he wasn’t sure a single debate could sway his opinion.

“There's more debates to come. With the debates in the past, there's always an ebb and flow pretty much until next flow,” Hart said.
