FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A 29-year-old man was arrested following a cyber tip provided to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Joshua Butterworth, of Flint, was arraigned on March 6 on 28 counts of distribution and possession of child sexually abusive materials.

"It's surprising. It's unfortunate. I hate to think that's happening right around where I live," said Ben Rymar, Flint resident.

Rymar lives in Butterworth's quiet Flint neighborhood and said he was shocked.

Authorities said the arrest comes after the completion of a seven month investigation.

David Vergison is with the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit. He credits tips submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for Butterworth's arrest.

"It feels good to finally be able to close this one up and move on to the next one," Vergison said.

Vergison said Butterworth had hundreds of images of child porn in his possession when he was arrested earlier this month. He said child pornography is a growing problem and urges parents to keep a close eye on their children.

"If we can keep an active approach in monitoring their behavior on those devices we can hopefully prevent additional images and videos from leaking out onto the internet," Vergison said.

Anyone with information regarding possible child sexual exploitation is encouraged to report it to the cyber tip line at www.missingkids.org/cybertipline.
