Indian Mound, TN (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan native has died after apparently being attacked and left on a dirt road. Now his accused attacker has been charged with murder.

Seth Brabant, 24, from Chesaning, was found lying face down on a road in Stewart County, Tennessee, on March 6.

Brabant is a former soldier at Fort Campbell in Kentucky. Vanderbilt Medical Center in Tennessee informed TV5 of his death shortly after 3:30 p.m. on March 10.

Investigators have arrested Zachary Ponder, 23, and originally charged him with attempted first degree murder and aggravated assault. Following Brabant's death that charge was changed to first degree murder.

Investigator David Evans said Ponder brutally beat Brabant.

“He had some obvious contusions to his head and face,” Evans said.

Ponder is an active service member at Ft. Campbell and apparently knew Brabant.

A motive is still under investigation.

Ponder will be back in court March 22.

Brabant's family has set up a gofundme account, and are hoping for help bringing his body back to Mid-Michigan. You can see it here.
