FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Celebrities, athletes and business owners are donating millions to classrooms across the country through a crowd funding website called donorschoose.org.

“You go to the state, you go to the school, you go to the project, they fund it 100 percent of the money goes to that project," said Late Show host Stephen Colbert.

Last week more than 50 famous faces pledged support during the best school day campaign. The effort was inspired by Colbert.

“The real heroes are the teachers,” Colbert said.

NFL player Mark Ingram graduated from Flint Southwestern. He donated money to fund all the projects for Flint schools.

Teachers from Flint schools took to Twitter to thank the New Orleans Saint for his support.

He responded saying "Blessed to be able to help... #GodIsGood."

More than $14 million was raised nationwide during the Best School Day event, and more than 11,000 projects were funded.
