Paul Becerril drives his grandson to Michigan Lutheran School in Saginaw.

"I know at this point the city is trying to do everything they can right now on some of these roads but this one needs to be taken care of because it's a school," Becerril said.

He worries that motorists who roar down Hardin Street next to the school will lose control one day and hit a child.

"They're looking at one of these days somebody's going to go through there really fast and they're going to go airborne," Becerril said.

The craters on this street have also hit Becerril hard in the wallet.

"Last year I went through three tires, because of these potholes, I’ve got a low profile tires, I ended up paying over three thousand dollars for rims and tires," Becerril said.

The street is so bad a gutter is rising up out of the ground in front of one residence.

A longtime employee of the school, Ed Bender, said this street has been horrible for years, and he knows of better efforts that could be employed by the city to make it drivable.

"I've seen country roads that are chipped and sealed roads that are better than this road," Bender said.

School officials met on Tuesday to talk about the beat up street next to their building.

"MLS has been here since 1910, we obviously aren't going anywhere, so our focus isn't what can the city do for us, it's how can we be a member of this community and just make it as good as it can be for everybody," said Chris Kestner, Michigan Lutheran School.

Becerril said there's one reason why this street should remain a top priority for the city.

"The children should come first," Becerril said.
