SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A wildlife refuge is looking to bring a natural habitat to Mid-Michigan.

The Shiawasee National Wildlife Refuge plans to naturally restore the property once owned by the old Germania Golf Club of Saginaw.

Residents got a chance to learn about these plans at an open house on Tuesday afternoon.

"We're looking to maintain the car paths and the trails so the public can get access. The area used to be forested, so probably we'll be planting a lot of trees," said refuge manager Steven Kahl.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is taking public comments in writing and online at fws.gov until April 15.
