FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

After investing millions of dollars into its assembly plant in Mid-Michigan, General Motors is showing off the goods.

On Wednesday, our cameras got the first look at the new $600 million paint shop at the Flint assembly plant.

The nearly 600,000 square foot facility will be able to keep up with the plant's production of 30 vehicles an hour.

“This will definitely give us a better quality vehicle coming out of this particular paint shop,” said Craig Jones, paint area manager. “Our old paint shop was built in 1947, it’s a very old paint shop – antiquated. But the employees here were very dedicated, and the staff very dedicated to providing high quality product out of that old shop as we have been doing, but we expect an even better product out of the new paint shop.”

The new paint shop frees up space in the assembly plant.

GM has not said what the plans are for that space.
