Herig Elementary hosted a family board game night on Wednesday evening, bringing out kids and their parents for a fun time.

It's the latest in a series of events the Saginaw school has hosted, including Muffins with Mom, Donuts with Dad, and parent-child dances.

It's all part of an effort to get parents more involved in their children's lives.

"We want to have that warm and welcoming environment so parents feel comfortable coming into the school. Not for behavior or grades, but to just have fun," said Principal Jeanine Kowalski.

Organizers said they're trying to create a positive school environment for the better of the community and the success of their students.
