Sadness and shock.

"I instantly became upset," said Buena Vista Township Treasurer Christina Dillard.

Dillard said she felt when she heard the news: the Kroger grocery store, located in the township on Dixie Highway, would be shutting its doors next month.

"It's a hub if you will for necessities. Mainly our food, medicine, everything that we need for our daily living," Dillard said.

Dillard said the store is the only full service grocery store for many of the residents in the area.

That's why she started a campaign to keep store no. 410 open, a move that is generating immense community support.

"We have to always travel so far to get just the basic necessities. Now they're going to close the store! The grocery store!" said Buena Vista trustee Cheryl Merrill.

The next closest grocery store, also a Kroger, is located on Dixie Highway in Bridgeport which is about four miles away.

Merrill said that makes it particularly difficult to access for residents who are low income or disabled.

Dillard is urging residents to contact Kroger and make a plea for the Buena Vista store to keep from shuttering.

She has a message for the company, too.

"Please keep Kroger store #410 open!" Dillard said.
