SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Hart Road in Saginaw County was named after Harry Hart’s grandfather. But Hart says it could use some work, and he has a creative idea on how to do it. “Just pay it forward and go buy a bag of asphalt and put it in yourself.”

Fellow resident John Letty has lived in the area for sixteen years. He says this is about as bad as he’s see the street. “That road has been in rough shape for quite a few years. You know they try and fix it and the potholes seem to get worse as the weather changes with the frost and the thaw.”

County Road Commission officials like Joe Wisniewski tell us the days of Hart Road, in its current state, are numbered. “We have been awarded a grant to reconstruct Hart Road from Miller Road to Willing Road.”

Wisniewski tells TV5 the money is coming from both the Federal Highway and Fish and Wildlife service. “The fix is coming. You’re going to have a new road paved by the end of 2017. It’s going to improve access to the refuge and everyone’s access to their homes.”

Hart is glad to hear the news, saying it brings a smile to him and his family.

“I think it’s a very good project in the community and I think it helps everyone out.”
