GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A real estate agent has been charged for allegedly cheating families out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Investigators said in 2014 Thomas Tubbs first scammed a couple out of their money in a Fenton neighborhood.

“The residence was eventually purchased by another investment firm, and Tubbs took the $144,000 and used the money and converted it for his own personal use,” said Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell.

But that's not the only time he's allegedly done this.

Police said while that case was going through the courts, just this month, Tubbs promised another couple a property in Crystal Lake.

This time they said he took $150,000 and the couple didn’t end up with the property.

“It's a considerable amount of money,” Pickell said. “People work hard. And these aren't rich people. These are people who thought they were making an investment.”

Tubbs worked at a Century 21 office in Fenton.

A realtor at the office said he had Tubb's license had been pulled on Tuesday, once he found out about his alleged actions.

Pickell said it's frustrating that this had to happen a second time.

“Here we have a case at least a year old, and it's not even out of district court yet. And he's out here doing the same act again,” Pickell said.

Tubbs is currently out on bond. It is unclear if families would be able get their money back.
