A night of music for local students, but it was part of an effort to stop human trafficking.

It was Say Something Night at the YMCA in Saginaw.

Rock the Island sponsored the event.

It was the culmination of several school assemblies encouraging students to speak-up when they know someone is being victimized.

"We've heard story after story this week of children whose parents, or uncle or aunt or grandma, or whoever has custody of them, has literally sold their child for sex," said John Johnson, director Rock the Island festival.

There'll be a similar event at Bay City Western High School on the first Thursday in April.

On a related subject, state lawmakers voted to require human trafficking notices be posted in rest stops, strip clubs, airports, and bus and train stations.

The bill goes to Gov. Rick Snyder for his signature.
