FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

One of the larger efforts to curb the effect of lead poisoning has been to focus on nutrition.

And one organization is helping to contribute to that effort.

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association donated 2,000 gallons of milk to help with the water crisis.

They chose milk because the center of disease control said milk helps lower lead levels in people's blood.

The district governor for the organization said when he heard about what was going on in Flint, he knew something had to be done.

The milk will be distributed to the Catholic Charities soup kitchens in both the Center of Hope and North End locations.
