Students at the New Standard Charter School, got surprise visit from some young people from Detroit, fully motivated to help.

"I thought about if I was in this situation, which it would be Detroit in this situation, how we would want other people to help us out?" said Mariah Adams.

Adams is a member of the Youth Connection from the motor city.

The group came to town with some extra assistance and muscle from some members of the Detroit Police Department.

All unloaded packages of water, books and other essentials to improve the quality of life to the students here.

"It just kind of gave me and the rest of the youth the idea to collect water. Wipes, anything that could possibly help them out with," Adams said.

It's not just about water for this organization, they wanted to make sure there was some chewys and apple sauce for these young kids.

For Grenee Dudley, president and CEO of the Youth Connection, it’s important to see that children are giving back to children.

"And the kids said we want to help Flint because it's been all through the news," Dudley said. "We just didn't want to give water, hand sanitizer and paper products and thing like that."

Adams said the experience is rewarding for her and her friends.

"It makes me feel great like it makes me feel like, because I'm so young, it makes me feel like I actually have a voice," Adams said. "I don't know how to explain it right now – bigger than what I thought I was."
