FLINT TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

A crash has left a 15-year-old girl dead and four others injured.

The crash, at Court Street and Dye Road in Genesee County's Flint Township involved a van with four people inside and a pickup with only the driver.

Police said they are working to learn how the crash happened.

"We obviously have our accident reconstruction team out and they’re taking some measurements,” said Flint Township Sgt. Brad Wangler. “They’ll have to do a whole work up, interviews with witnesses and such."

Tami Amaya lives what she called a typically quiet corner.

"To know that somebody died right there. I don't even know what to think? Like how?" Amaya said.

The 15-year-old girl was from Durand. The three others in the van and the driver of the truck were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

"The van was traveling east bound on Court Street and the truck was heading south on Dye Road. Not sure at this point who's at fault," Wangler said.

Amber Sloan, who also lives near the accident, said the tragedy hits home.

"My little sister is 15, about to be driving," Sloan said.

Amaya said she thinks the accident must have been caused by someone not familiar with the corner.

"Not knowing the area, because that's been a four-way stop forever," Amaya said.
